Responsibility & Safety
It is your responsibility to take proper care and be sensible with the materials and resources we provide. Naturally it is possible to burn yourself with a soldering iron or a 3D printer’s hot-end, but it would be nonsensical to blame us for that. Similarly, it is up to you to apply basic hygiene procedures when making ginger beer, and apply checks to catch contamination and follow the instructions to prevent ginger beer from going alcoholic. And of course, we can’t prevent anyone from scratching a knee or getting a bit lost during orienteering.
Common sense applies. We enable, and that is incompatible with pampering. We expect to work with intelligent fellow human beings (we will not bother pointing out that it is unwise to, for instance, “dry a poodle in the microwave”).
Kits
We warrant that the items we provide to you are of suitable quality and are fit for the purpose we sell them for. We promise to replace or refund faulty items, as per Australian consumer law guidelines.
When soldering mishaps happen during a workshop run by us, we are generally aware of the conditions and are often able to replace the part to allow the workshop program to proceed as normal. We do this on a best effort basis, as replacement parts may not always be available at the time.
Naturally, we cannot guarantee that for instance an electronics kit that you assemble and solder yourself will work perfectly, as there are too many variables that are outside of our control. So if you break or burn something, you own all the bits including the charcoal. You may of course contact us to purchase a replacement part, and we’ll do our best to assist.
Teaching Resources and Workshops
We aim to always provide you with correct and up-to-date information and materials. Errāre hūmānum est. We welcome corrections and other feedback, and if there is anything that needs fixing up for you to be able to use our materials, we’ll do our best to accommodate within reasonable time frames.
Teaching is not a precise art, students and situations are diverse, thus we can’t guarantee specific outcomes beyond those stated in our information. We promise to always work on a best-effort basis, and aim to make things right if there is a stuff-up.
Quotes and Purchase Orders
We accept Purchase Orders from educational institutions and government agencies. You can email us your purchase order: acc (at) openstem (dot) com (dot) au, or select the “Purchase Order” payment option during checkout, referencing your P.O. number in the appropriate field. We will then issue an invoice with up to 30 days net payment terms, which your organisation can pay as normal via EFT, Credit Card or PayPal.
If you require a quote for your organisation, please ask us.
Account Funds
The OpenSTEM online store also allows you to load and maintain funds in your account so that you can purchase and download instantly even if you select a non-instant invoicing/payment process. Such funds remain yours until they are actually used, and you may request to receive them back at any time (via EFT only). You do not accrue interest over any funds kept in your account (we are not a bank). Purchase the virtual Account Funds Deposit product to add funds to your account, in multiples of $25.

We purchased the soldering kit after our son did the Mirobot workshops at school. He loved the idea of soldering…
