Description
Part of our ‘Federation’ series, aimed at year 6 Australian History, this resource examines the growth of an Australian National Identity through sport, and relates that identity to the events surrounding Federation.
Federation affected many aspects of people’s lives in Australia, and the arena of sport was not isolated from these events.
Different sports interacted with the national identity in different ways, which is shown through examining Cricket and Football as examples. Australia’s relationship with the Olympic and Commonwealth Games in terms of national identity was also relatively complex.
Through the medium of sport, we can examine many of the key aspects of Federation, in a way that is readily accessible to most students.
