Description
As a result of the Treaty of Tordesillas, Spain regarded everything west of Brazil as theirs. They set about trying to reinforce their claim to North America in 1774, by sending Juan Pérez to explore the Pacific North-West coast. Pérez established trade with the indigenous people in Nootka Sound, on the island later known as Vancouver, paving the way for the later Spanish presence in the area.
This resource explores his life and achievements and is aligned with Year 5 Australian Curriculum History, Geography and HASS.
