Description
Martin Behaim was a German scientist, navigator and cartographer who accompanied the Portuguese expedition to West Africa, led by Diogo Cão. His contribution to European exploration of the world was to produce the first globe of the known world produced since the time of the Romans. Behaim’s globe showed the Earth as understood by Europeans in the early 1490s. Behaim studied all the reports made by European navigators very closely in order to produce an incredibly detailed and (for its time) accurate map. This resource describes Behaim’s life and achievements.
