Description
After Columbus, the Spanish had established themselves in the Caribbean and even had settlements in Central America. Vasco De Balboa was a rather colourful individual who became the first European to see the Pacific Ocean, having crossed from east to west at Panama. He immediately claimed it for Spain, although it was to be several years before Spanish ships reached the Pacific by sailing south of South America. This resource examines the life of Vasco De Balboa.
