Three PDFs containing instructions, colour photos of locations around the world, a custom map for each location, and detailed descriptions. Suits all school age year levels. We recommend using a globe in addition to the OpenSTEM blackline world map. For home use, you can also use an atlas or other wall map, of course.
Also used in OpenSTEM’s Understanding Our World™ HASS+Science Program, this is a practical and fun activity to get kids relating to geography and learning about the world. There’s unlimited scope for building on, with (for instance) the child’s own friends and family members travelling or living overseas.
Indi Alford, Teacher –
Aunt Madge’s Suitcase was a really fun activity! The children were really interested in all the places she travelled to, and some even asked to use their spare time to do some extra research on various parts of the world included in the activity. It was a great way to begin the day and fostered some very interesting discussions in class. I’d definitely recommend it and will be using it again this year at my new school!
