This resource provides information about Aboriginal society before, and at time of, contact with Europeans. The resource examines Aboriginal social structure; Children; Play; Families; Travel; Hospitality and Reciprocity; Interactions with Captain Cook, the First Fleet and European settlers. The resource attempts to address the Aboriginal perspective on contact with Europeans and provide some level of understanding of the potential for misunderstanding and conflict in many of the early interactions.

Designed to complement the Year 4 and 5 Australian History curriculum, this resource can be used to provide information on any study of Aboriginal people in Australia’s history.
