Description
Most Aboriginal people lost the right to vote shortly after Federation, with the Franchise Act of 1902. It was almost half a century before they started to get some of those rights back and 1965, before they were allowed to vote in all states. However, Aboriginal people were still treated differently by the Constitution until after the referendum in 1967. This resource traces the history of the voting rights of Aboriginal people in Australia, as well as the struggle for civil rights.
The resource aligns with Year 5 and 6 Australian Curriculum History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship and HASS.
