This resource examines the political and social situation in England during the 15th to 18th centuries. It explains England’s role in the voyages of exploration, as well as describing the conditions which led to the establishment of colonies and ultimately, the settlement of Australia.
This resource complements the resource Europe in the ‘Age of Discovery’, by considering the situation for England in particular. It provides essential background information, matched to the National Curriculum, on why England established a colony in Australia.
