This resource provides an overview of the history of the colony of New South Wales, from the arrival of the First Fleet to Federation.
The resource provides background on the Aboriginal people of NSW, and their history after colonisation, as well as a description of the convict settlement. The position of the colony vis-a-vis the other British colonies in Australasia is also examined. A section on the gold rush of the late 19th century is included. The development of democracy is tracked against the changing nature of the colonial government during the 19th century.
Aimed primarily at the Year 5 Australian History curriculum, this resource complements other Australian History and Geography resources for Years 4, 5 and 6.
