Everything you need to hold a class election (2 activity and 5 resource PDFs), including full preferential voting assisted by excellent AEC resources which allow you to print customised ballot papers, etc. Students run a political campaign, whilst learning about Australia’s electoral system and its contribution to the world’s democratic history. Candidates negotiate with the teacher to offer an election promise they can deliver if they are elected (such as a class party, a day without homework, or something else).
These resources align with Year 4, 5 and 6 Australian Curriculum History, Civics and Citizenship and HASS.
This resource gives examples of 19th century cartoons covering a range of topics from Australian history, particularly concerning the colonies, Federation and women’s suffrage.
This resource examines Abel Tasman’s life and voyages of exploration, providing context for an understanding of the European settlement of Australia (and New Zealand).
This resource provides an overview of Australian history before colonisation and a description of the way of life of Aboriginal people immediately before contact with Europeans.
The resource aligns with Australian Curriculum History, Geography, Civic and Citizenship and HASS for years 4, 5, and 6.
Since implementing this program I've really noticed how the students are improving.
