Description

The Shearers’ Strike of 1891 in Queensland, and the associated march in Barcaldine in May of that year, became important historical events. The strike forced employers to uphold certain standards for workers and was credited as being important in the formation of the Australian Labor Party. The Eureka flag was flown, providing a link to the earlier events of the Eureka Stockade. This resource examines the events and their broader context for Queensland and the late colonial period in general.
