Description
This resource examines the role of the Bush Poets in the development of an uniquely Australian identity at the end of the colonial period in the 19th century. Special mention is made of Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson, but the context and genre of bush poetry are also explored. Examples are given of some of the poems mentioned in the text, including “Waltzing Matilda”; “Clancy of the Overflow” and “Freedom on the Wallaby”.
The resource is aimed at students in Year 5, but can also be used for students in other year levels looking at Australian colonial or Federation history, Australian literature and identity or aspects of the Australian Curriculum for History, Civics and Citizenship, HASS and English.
