Activity: Building A Humpy

Description

This resource explains how to build an Aboriginal shelter, sometimes known as a “humpy”.

As an activity, building an Aboriginal shelter can help students gain a different perspective, as they imagine what it would be like to live in such a dwelling.

This activity complements the Australian History and Geography curriculum, especially for Foundation (Prep), Year 1, 2, 3 and 4. The activity is particularly successful if undertaken by groups of students from different year levels, with older students helping the younger students.
