Description

This resource examines the lives of different groups of children in Australia during the 19th and the early 20th centuries.

It is designed to build on, and complement, the resource Children in 18th and 19th century Australia. The resource includes topics on Aboriginal children, convict children, settler children, Victorian children, games and play, girls and education and the Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989. Students are encouraged to compare and contrast the lives of children in the past with their own. The resource can help students to understand life in 18th and 19th century Australia from a perspective which they find slightly easier to identify with – that of the child.

This resource is designed to complement the Year 5 and 6 Australian History curriculum.
