Description
The people of the Torres Strait are examined in this resource. Over thousands of years these people have faced enormous change in their local environment, as the land was flooded at the end of the Ice Age. They adapted and developed a way of life centred on the sea, which is discussed in this resource. As well as their way of life, their languages, culture and celebrations are briefly described. The role of the Torres Strait in the recognition of native title in Australia is also examined.
This resource aligns with Year 4, 5 and 6 Australian Curriculum History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship and HASS. It is part of our ‘Indigenous Peoples’ series.
