Description

This resource provides an overview of Australian history before colonisation and a description of the way of life of Aboriginal people immediately before contact with Europeans. The resource explores topics such as the Dreamtime, Aboriginal management of the environment, sustainability and changes in the Australian environment over time. Aspects of Aboriginal law and custom, especially those relating to environmental management, are explored and it is shown how their perspectives clashed with those of the European settlers, often leading to conflict. There is a special focus on Sydney in 1787, providing background for the arrival of the First Fleet.
