Activity: Running a Class Election

Description

This activity is designed to give students a first-hand example of Australian democracy, whilst exploring some of the historical aspects of our democratic process, including the use of secret ballot, ballot boxes, election officers and preferential voting.

This resource is developed to complement the resources provided by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) for schools, and explains how to use the AEC resources to produce customised ballot papers, tally sheets and other items to use in the activity.

This resource aligns with Year 4, 5 and 6 Australian Curriculum History, Civics and Citizenship and HASS.
