Description
Australia has its own history of exploration. One of Australia’s explorers is Matthew Flinders, who led the first expedition to circumnavigate Australia. Flinders, together with his companion, George Bass, also demonstrated to the British the existence of Bass Strait and the fact that Tasmania was an island. This allowed the British to reduce their sailing time from Britain to Sydney by several days.
This resource examines the life and achievements of Matthew Flinders and is designed to complement the Year 4 and 5 Australian History and Geography curricula.
