$5.00

This resource looks at some children’s games from around the world through time, chosen to complement the Living in the Past resource.

Concentrating on games from Ancient China, Mexico, Egypt and Rome, as well as traditional Aboriginal and Zulu games, this resource aims at helping students identify with children around the world and through time. Instructions are given for playing most of the games, so that students can try the games themselves.

Description

Children love to play games and games can provide a kinaesthetic learning, allowing children to step into another world. This resource provides a selection of traditional games from around the world, chosen to complement the Living in the Past resource.

Games included are:

  • Aboriginal Australia,
  • Ancient Egypt,
  • Ancient Rome,
  • Ancient China,
  • Aztec Mexico and
  • Zulu Africa.

By playing some of these games, students can consolidate the learning acquired, as well as become exposed to additional aspects of the societies explored, almost without realising that they are learning.

This resource is intended for younger students, from Prep (Foundation) to Year 3, but could be used by students up to Year 6. It is aimed at making students consider how children have lived in other times and places. The resource can also be used to support cultural studies of any of the societies included. It aligns with the Australian Curriculum for History and Geography, as well as HASS, for Prep (Foundation) to Year 3.
